How to make your car run longer

How to Extend the Life of Your Car

The care of our car goes through multiple points that we all like to attend: check and maintain the tires, pass the revisions in due time, take care of the exterior appearance washing it and putting a thousand eyes when it comes to parking, not to have dents … We all like the car to be in perfect condition and to be healthy inside and out. Using a proper lubricant, and following a series of very simple tips will make our engine last longer in good health.
As we know, the lubricant is essential for the engine to work, and choosing the most suitable oil for each engine makes the difference on many levels: from pure performance, through engine cleaning and finishing to its durability, Engine is one of the elements to which we should pay more attention.

1. Deal with the maximum period of time between two oil changes
Oil change is the best way to ensure that your engine will be in the best hands and always lubricated, clean and free from dangers. Motor oils maintain their properties for some time, depending on the type of oil of course, and once the container is opened, it begins to break down (by contact with the oxygen in the air).

2. Each oil has an optimum mileage after which it has to be renewed
In the same way that you have to make an oil change every year, or every two years depending on the type of oil and its quality, there are a number of kilometers from which it is not guaranteed that the oil has 100% its lubricating properties . That is, if we go beyond the change intervals recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, you may have lubrication problems. This is because the level of impurities contained in the oil is very high, together with the wear caused by the use itself. You have to change the oil when you reach the mileage limit (and a little earlier you can too), or when the recommended period ends: whichever comes first.
If you do not have a trustworthy workshop, we recommend that you try out one of the TOTAL Rapid Oil Change (ROC) workshops, where they can advise you.

3. Periodically check the oil level
With the engine stopped and the car cold completely, measuring the oil level is a good idea. To do this, you must locate the tank and use the dipstick, wiping it with a cloth, and then check that the level is between the maximum and minimum values. Do not wait to see oil stains on the floor, periodically check that level to be calm. If you want to see the process and have doubts, watch this video.

4. If you fill oil in the tank, be careful
Remember that all vehicles need oil for proper operation. Perform the oil filling operation on your engine in a clean and comfortable way with our filling pack. If you fill the oil tank very often, it may be a symptom that something is wrong and you are losing oil, so you should consider a visit to your trustworthy workshop.

5. Mixing oils, good, or bad idea?
It is neither a good idea nor bad. In fact, it is logical not to mix oils, because it is the best way to maintain the lubricating properties, as well as those of their controlled additives. If we mix oil of worse quality, we will be reducing the overall quality of our oil, logically. That is why the best advice we can give is if we are to mix oils, which are of the same quality if we do not know or remember exactly what oil we are using.

6. Too much oil in the crankcase is not a good idea
The oil, not much, not much: the right amount. Too little means that it will not lubricate properly, but too much oil in the crankcase may imply a general increase in temperature, you can splash the cylinders with oil which, when burned, will increase deposits and in the long run will be worse. The oil, in the right amount indicated by the manual.

7. The engine oil turns black right away, is it bad?
One of the main functions of an oil is the internal cleaning of the engine, and in the combustion, process impurities are generated that cause that dark color that we perceive.

8. Additives for oil, are they necessary?
Normally you will not need additives for the oil because the own oil that is used in the official changes has everything necessary to extend the life of your engine. In addition, the additives cannot reduce the oil consumption of an old engine, nor can they restore protective properties in the case of a used oil.

9. Long-lasting oils, are they my choice?
This type of long-lasting synthetic oil is an interesting option if many miles are made each year. We think that they are oils formulated to last many thousands of kilometers (they can be formulated to last twice as much, or more than a conventional oil), but if we do not circulate enough it will not come to mind.

10. The oil filter, that great forgotten
It is advisable to change the filter every time the oil is changed, however, the usual practice is to change the filter every two oil changes. Low SAPS lubricants are products developed to protect the performance of catalysts and particulate filters. The Low SAPS products of the EVOLUTION FULL-TECH range have been developed to achieve the maximum durability and optimum operation of these systems so that the maintenance costs of your vehicle.
